In A Tight Spot, Choose Super Adhesive and Baking Soda
Need a quick fix, while out fishing in the field? Or did a new 3D print break during the cleanup process? What should you do now? For a quick fix, simply grab some extra strength glue, our choice, Starbond Super Adhesives, and baking soda. Let’s cover the filling process.
This method works on wood, plastics, and more. By using baking soda as the ‘filler’ and the super adhesive as the bonding agent, you’ll have a quick fix in no time. I’ve used Starbond and soda on prints, electronics, fishing gear, small wood carvings etc. This combination does wonders, more specifically on plastics and woods.
Like Bondo (metal applications such as autos), the combination of super glue and soda can be trimmed, sanded and cut away like the materials you might use it on. Dissimilar to epoxies or epoxy applications, the material dries quickly and can be molded. It’s important to highlight the ability to shape and quickly fix plastics or woods within minutes.
One more item to note, I don’t use it, but there is an activator that can be used to dry the mix of super glue and soda instantly. I’ve read, some use compressed air (air can for dust) to freeze the mix. Again, effectively getting the same instant result.
If you need to clean up your 3D Printables, fix drones and drone parts, clean up or deburr plastics and filler using super adhesives and baking soda, deburring tools are a must. When producing items from plastics or resin compounds such as wood, metals and plastics, the production process isn’t perfect, leaving you with work post-production.
Tasks like, trimming for metal stamping, removing 3d print travel or 3d print supports found in the 3D printing process. A deburring tool is an essential tool, perhaps even a required tool. The point here is precision, scissors are ineffective, other cutting tool don’t allow for pinpoint leverage and superior cutting edge by application.
I recommend AFA Deburring Tools for hand scraping, cut-off and print clean up. More of a manual process, where the Dremel it’s automatic sibling. So, for the purposes of care and clean up, I also recommend the Dremel Rotary Tool such an application. The Dremel tool can be used for tile, clay, woods and metals. These tools are handy to have around the shop for various tasks.
Finally, for those tough jobs, or bonds, try JB Weld (J-B Weld Amazon Store). There are many applications for JB weld. Whether it’s loose or broken tiles, outdoor furniture, or any other project, JB Weld Epoxy and adhesives will create a strong and lasting bond using chemical bonding resins.
